OPP News

And So, We Reach the End!

Attention all OPP members!!!! We've reached the last week of our OPP 2025 season!!!  The pool officially closes at 12 Noon on Sunday--right after cleanup from 10 AM to 12 noon.  Don't fret too much, we'll be back in a few months, with hopefully a resurfaced pool, repaired seating areas, and some small upgrades here and there throughout the property.  Please try to get your last swims in this week if you can!

Guard Appreciation Reminder

For those of you that haven't contributed to the member created (thank you Karen!) guard appreciation fund, please see below.  Our aim is to get Ricardo and Denroy their final gifts within the next few days, so please contribute soon if you are intending to do so...

OPP Community:

As we head into the offseason, we’re organizing our annual lifeguard appreciation collection for Ricardo and Denroy. This effort is separate and distinct from the recent fundraiser supporting Ricardo after his father’s passing—an unfortunate, one-time event where our community rallied with incredible generosity to support him and his family.

We want to continue our tradition of thanking both guards while being mindful not to oversaturate donation requests of our generous community. Any amount is appreciated and will be split evenly between Ricardo and Denroy. Historically, gifts have averaged $15–$25, but please contribute at a level that feels comfortable for you.

How to donate (by Thursday, October 16, 2025):

  • Venmo:@Karen-Lynn-18 (last 4 digits: 7178)

  • Select: “Friends & Family”

  • Memo: “OPP Guards”

Pool Area Cleanup from 10-12 Noon on Sunday

For those of you that love to help with cleaning up, oh boy do we have an opportunity for you!  Please join us this Sunday as we put away the chairs, tables, umbrellas, and other outdoor items for the season.  This should be a relatively quick cleanup, but we'll try to entice anyone willing to help with a few sweets or lunch--food TBD and based on attendance.  Thank you all in advance for making this a great season and a great closeout to the year!

Board Elections - November 10th

We have now have our list of candidates for our open OPP board positions.  All OPP members are welcome to come and vote in the board position election.  They will be held at the beginning of the OPP board meeting on Monday, November 10th at 7:00 PM in the Gallery room at the Orinda Community Center.  Please see below for the candidate statements from the individuals running for board positions this year.

PRESIDENT
Chris Dunham
Since moving to Orinda in 2022, I have served three seasons as an at-large board member and live close to the pool with my family. I believe Orinda Park Pool is the best in the East Bay, and as President I will work to make it even better for all members in collaboration with our fantastic, all volunteer Board of Directors—by enhancing the member experience, supporting staff, and
strengthening our member-based community. I’ve had the opportunity to meet many of our members, look forward to meeting those I have not yet, and having your support as OPP’s next President.

TREASURER
Dan Kanka
I would be interested in serving in the role of Treasurer on the OPP Board. Our family has been members here since 2019 and we absolutely love Park Pool and the OPP community. We're here all summer long! Our son (now 9) has been on the swim team since he was a mini-Stinger and words cannot express how appreciative we are for the overwhelmingly positive impact our coaches, his teammates and the swim team families have had on his (and our) life. We've been blessed to make great friends here and I would appreciate the opportunity to help the pool as a Board Member. Professionally, I started my career in accounting. In my last 2 work experiences, I spent 15 years running the finance, accounting and operations functions at a consulting and software company. Both were small businesses (100-150 employees) with a lean G&A function, so it has provided me a broad set of admin/operational experience which includes financial modeling, forecasting, budgeting, accounting, legal, contract/vendor management, tax, etc. Our joining OPP was one of the best experiences we've done as a family (thank you Alison!). I hope I can have the chance to leverage my work background to contribute positively to Park Pool.
Goooooooooooooooooooooo Park!

MAINTENANCE
Brendan Darby
I'm interested in the role because my family and I are proud members of OPP and our oldest daughter, Bridget, is on the swim team. Giving back by helping the pool keep up with maintenance seems like the least I could do! In my day job, I am the owner of Lamorinda Pool Services, so I have plenty of experience with pool maintenance (both residential and commercial), and have a Certified Pool Operator designation from the Pool and Hot Tub Alliance. I think this makes me a great fit to help keep OPP up and running.
SWIM TEAM
Kristin Johston
I'm excited to return as the Swim Team Director! Our family has been part of this incredible swim team community for the past five years, and it’s been an amazing journey watching swimmers grow in skill, confidence, and teamwork. I truly enjoy working with everyone—swimmers, parents, and coaches—and love being part of such a supportive, energetic environment. Whether you're new to the team or a returning swimmer, I’m here to help make this season fun, rewarding, and full of great memories—both in and out of the pool!
GoooOOO PARK!

The Meadow Halloween Meet Is Here--Be Sure You're Registered!

There was a minor TeamUnify issue that needed to be resolved last night.  Your awesome coach (Brad) and computer specialist (Peter McRae) were able to fix the issue very quickly.  But, as a result of the glitch, all old registrations for the upcoming Halloween meet were partially deleted.  To be safe, Coach Brad is asking everyone to re-register for the Sunday Halloween Meadow Meet if you are intending to attend.  We're sorry for the inconvenience, but please be sure to take care of this right away--submissions are due this evening.  We hope to see you all there on Sunday!

Gooooooooooo PARK!
